Normally Propel a Cure celebrates Giving Tuesday in late November after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, #GivingTuesdayNow, has been scheduled for the 5th of May in response to the world-wide shut down and social distancing requirements to help fight the deadly spread of Covid19. Many nonprofit fundraising events and opportunities have been cancelled, which has had a direct impact on the ability to support existing programs. Propel a Cure has been impacted with a calendar of engagements that have been called off and we will probably not be able to sponsor the annual Swimathon this summer.
#GivingTuesdayNow has been organized with the intent to spark generosity at the grassroots level, rallying people to come together to help, and reconnect to our communities both locally and globally, even as we maintain social distance. Whether you reach out to help a neighbor, advocate for an issue, give to a cause that is dear to you, your actions are meaningful. “#GivingTuesdayNow is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together in unity–to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal.”
“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. Every act of kindness is not only a beacon of hope, it’s a critical act of civic and social solidarity.”
So, with the spirit of #GivingTuesdayNow we invite you to visit our website, read our blogs, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, engage, volunteer, and spread the word about our cause. And if you can, please donate so we can continue to fund top notch, evidence-based research for a CURE for Crohn’s which so many sufferers desperately need.
